Business plans are essential for any successful business owner. You need to know where you are now, where you want to go and how the hell you are going to get there! It is also very important to keep writing new ones.
Things change all the time in business and in life, and the key to your own success will be the ability to flex and change as and when it is required. You also shouldn’t be writing a plan for life, you should be writing 12 month, 5 year and 10 year plans and again, be prepared for them to change over time.
I wrote my first business plan for my VA business as part of my VA training with the wonderful Amanda Johnson of VACT.
My course required me to write a business plan at the start, and then revisit it at the end. It is safe to say that after all the support and advice I gained from my training, my business model was very different to that first plan I wrote.
Beating that plan
In my second business plan, I wrote that in 2018 I would like to grow my business by taking on new clients and also an associate to start building up a team of support under the LM-VA umbrella. Last month that new client and associate came on board – EXCITING!!!!! I’ll introduce my fabulous associate to you next time….
New year new plan
So now that I have made my plans for 2018 happen already, I’m going to use the Christmas break to write a new plan (and see how quickly I can make those plans come to life!). I already have a couple of ideas, I’ve bought some training courses and I hope to offer new services and attract even more new clients…..that’s just step 1 of next year and I can’t wait to see what else will happen.
How often do you review and renew your business plans? Has this blog motivated you to go back and have a look at yours? I’d love to know!
